Jane Skuratova is an artist living in Russia. Nature inspires many of her works, which can be seen in the vivid colors and textures portrayed in her paintings. She has a love for watercolor and uses it to show a piece of her soul. Keep reading to learn more about her artistic journey.

Where are you from and where do you currently reside?

I am from Russia. I live in Altai among the beautiful nature of mountains and rivers.

What drew you to become an artist and what type of art do you most enjoy doing?

I have always loved to draw. I have always been inspired by nature, (although in my art I prefer to draw people), culture, and the inner world of man, which sometimes I manage to catch and draw with watercolor, giving the image of mystery and understatement.

How would you describe your style?

Most of my paintings are done in the classic wet-on-wet technique, but I like to experiment and mix techniques, such as watercolor plus colored pencils. In watercolor, I like blurriness and focus on details that I want to draw attention to. It’s also easy to convey lightness and sunshine.

What has kept you engaged and committed to your craft over the years?

My love of creativity and self-expression. New ideas and images constantly arise, and it is impossible not to capture them in paintings. Also, a constant interest in creativity does not let you stop where you are. Love for experiments helps to develop, though not all of them turn out successfully.

How have you grown as an artist in the past five years and what are the major contributing factors to your growth?

My technique has improved and become more sophisticated, and constant practice and study with watercolor masters has led to it.

What materials do you most commonly use?

Watercolor and colored pencils.

Can you describe some of your favorite pieces you’ve worked on?

I love my works that are painted in a maximum of 3 layers. Above is a portrait of an Asian girl with magnolias, it turned out very sunny and light. And below is a painting of a nude girl with a tiger, painted in mixed technique watercolor plus colored pencils, it turned out very effective.

Do you have any advice for up-and-coming artists? Are there any tips or techniques you can offer?

Practice as much as possible, each new work will improve your technique, don’t be afraid to experiment, that way you will find your style and path.
