Mixed Media Valentine’s Day Banner Featuring Tombow Adhesives

Love is in the air! To celebrate, we are sharing how to use Tombow adhesives and Dual Brush Pens to make a mixed media Valentine’s Day banner!

Supplies

Step 1:Using a MONO Drawing Pencil, draw a three-inch square heart and a six by nine-inch banner on chipboard. Then, cut both shapes.

Step 2:

Cut 12 inches of cotton lace and 34 inches of seam binding ribbon. Color the lace and ribbon using Dual Brush Pens 685, 703, 725 and 743. Then, use the Spray Mister (included in the Blending Kit) to allow the colors to blend. Set everything aside to dry.

Step 3:

Color in a DIY paper flower using the same set of Dual Brush Pens. Apply the light colors to the center of the flower and the dark colors to the edges. Use the Spray Mister to blend the colors and then set aside to dry.

Step 4:

Trace a banner shape on the back of some music paper and roughly cut it to match the shape of the banner chipboard. Apply the music paper to the chipboard using the MONO Aqua Liquid Glue. The MONO Aqua Liquid Glue dries clear, so you don’t have to worry about wrinkles and folding. Once the glue dries, trim the excess edges of the paper.

Step 5:

Place the chipboard letters onto the Blending Palette and color them in using Dual Brush Pen 856. Make sure to color in all of the sides and edges.

Step 6:

Paint the heart shaped chipboard with red craft paint. Arrange the red buttons on the heart until you like the way the composition looks. Adhere the buttons with the MONO Aqua Liquid Glue.

Step 7:

Measure and cut a ¾ by 6-inch strip of watercolor paper. Color the strip with Dual Brush Pen 491 and blend with a paint brush to give off a watercolor effect.

 Step 8:

Apply the colored chipboard letters to the top right of the banner using MONO Aqua Liquid Glue. Adhere the button heart to the banner with the MONO Aqua Liquid Glue as well.

Step 9:

Attach the colored lace to the bottom edge of the banner using the Tombow Xtreme Adhesive. Fun fact: the Tombow Xtreme Adhesive is five-times stronger than other adhesives!

Step 10:

Use the gray tip of the Fudenosuke Brush Pen Dual Tip to create a shadow around the button heart and the chipboard letters.

Step 11:

Measure and cut two 12-inch lengths of the colored seam binding ribbon. Punch holes in the top right and left of the banner, thread the ribbon through and tie in a bow.

Step 12:

Attach the colored flower to the left-hand side of the button heart using the Tombow Xtreme Adhesive. Next, handletter “trust your heart” on the light blue watercolor strip with the black tip of the Fudenosuke Twin Tip Brush Pen. Attach the strip of paper using the Tombow Xtreme Adhesive. Finally, embellish with clear rhinestones!
