Happy National Pencil Day!

Ah, the pencil. The original art supply for so many of us, especially those of us who were in first grade before STABILO’s Woody 3 in 1 came out. National Pencil Day is just around the corner, on March 30th! Consider posting some fun facts on social media (or around your store).

Fun Facts

  • The word pencil comes from the Latin word pencillus, “little tail.” It can also be derived from the French pincel, meaning “little paintbrush.”
  • Before erasers were gluten-free: back in the day, people used bread crumbs to scrub away typos!
  • The largest pencil in the world is over 76 feet long, weighs 18,000 pounds, represents the volume of 1,900,000 regular pencils and contains 4,500 pounds of real graphite.
  • Pencils can write in zero gravity and were used on early American and Russian space missions.

Share It Out

There is something relaxing about watching massive amounts of things get made. Or is that just me? An oldie but a goodie, this Faber Castell mini-documentary on how pencils are made is instructional and fun to watch. Share it with your followers and repost inspiring artwork done in pencil.
