Information Worth Sharing: New Video From Golden, Perfect For Painters

Golden Artist Colors

Support Induced Discoloration (SID), what is it? and how to minimize it. from Golden Artist Colors on Vimeo.

Proper preparation can change everything. Set your staff up for success when chatting with customers and ensure that your community gets the best results when painting, from start to finish. Golden’s new video demos step-by-step how to minimize Support Induced Discoloration (SID). SID occurs when contaminants are drawn into paints and mediums as they dry – it is most noticeable with light colors, gel mediums and glazes. This video demos how to prepare a canvas or board with Gloss Medium to minimize SID before painting.

Videos are quick and easy to share on Facebook – a great way to boost your organic reach with valuable content. Check out Golden’s other videos on Vimeo and YouTube for additional resources.

From MacPherson’s Elgin, IL Distribution Center Manager Jeff Zwerenz:

MacPherson's elgin

“Last week we closed our Elgin distribution center. Friday was the end of an era and a day filled with pictures, hugs, crying, laughing, and just about anything else that accompanies an event in which 23 great people will not only set out to start a new chapter in their individual lives, but will forever remember and appreciate the team and family that they became. This was a team that I, as most I’m sure, will never forget. It was truly difficult to see everyone walk out of our warehouse for the last time. I will say, however, as I watched a group of people leave today with a total of 136 years of experience with MacPhersons, I’m am very proud of the commitment and dignity they displayed through it all. “

UA Redwood CityAfter over a year of planning, building and moving University Art has opened their new flagship store in Redwood City, CA. Their venerable Palo Alto Store will be closing soon. The new space is spectacular. Congratulations team UA!!!

Perry Paradiso of Perry’s Art & Frame in San Anselmo, CA is celebrating the huge milestone of 50 years serving his community’s creative needs. congratulations Perry and staff (both past & present).

AlleryA farewell note from Canson USA’s Jim Allery“During NAMTA I met with the Eric Joan, Managing Director of Groupe-Hamelin and it has been decided that May 23, 2014 will be my last day at Canson. For the past 27 years, working with Canson and the art industry has been an integral part of my life. The many wonderful experiences of the past will stay with me always. Although we have accomplished much for Canson during these 27 years, my greatest source of pride is, and will always be, the incredible friendships made during these years. Although I will no longer be working with Canson I expect to continue working or consulting in the future. It has been an honor and privilege to work with all of you. I wish you all the best in the future and I hope our paths will cross again.”

Hyatt’s All Things Creative has announced the closing of their Rochester, NY store as of May 18, 2014. According to the company, “Our recent growth is because of our successful efforts to become a competitive online retailer. From our 32,000 square foot flagship store, warehouse and offices in Buffalo, we now ship a large volume of orders weekly to our web customers. To respond to this market change, we have decided to close our Rochester store.”

Golden’s Primary Marketing Priorities: Williamsburg Oil Mediums & Merchandising

Tuesday, October 11th, 2011

One primary strategy that Golden Artist Colors will be targeting for 2011 is:

Support of Williamsburg Handmade Oil Colors

1. Williamsburg Handmade Oil Colors Merchandising

As mentioned earlier this year, in order to further support the Williamsburg Handmade Oil Colors line, GOLDEN is introducing a number of new items and enhancements to the merchandising materials available, further warranting your interest in the brand.

2. Williamsburg Handmade Oil Mediums

One of the recent improvements was the change in packaging for the Williamsburg Mediums. In order to better align the packaging for the Oil Mediums with the professionalism and prestige of the Williamsburg brand, these products will now be available in new square, glass containers for the 2 oz., 4 oz., 8 oz., and 16 oz., sizes. These have begun shipping, so you should see them soon!

Golden Artist Colors closes 2008 with great momentum for 2009!

New Fluid Acrylics
The versatility of GOLDEN Fluid Acrylics continues to inspire artists everywhere. Building on the strength of this category, GOLDEN is introducing five new Fluid Acrylic colors that include two Fluid Historical colors and three Fluid Interference colors. Expanding the Fluid Historical offering, Viridian Green Hue and Van Dyke Brown Hue join the collection of six colors already in the line. As the next generation of Fluid Interference colors, Color Travel Interference colors shift dramatically when viewed at different angles, revealing not just one shift, but multiple tones between two points on a spectrum. For quick expansion of an existing 1 oz. 24″ cabinet, GOLDEN is offering a 2009 Fluid Bundle Pack. For further details, contact your MacPherson’s sales representative.

New Book
Working Artists program director, Patti Brady, publishes Rethinking Acrylic, Radical Solutions to the World’s Most Versatile Medium” with North Light Books. In it, Patti explores the versatility of the acrylic medium and its ability to mimic oil paint, watercolor, gouache and encaustic. She demonstrates how it can be applied in subtle transparent washes or troweled on as a heavy thick impasto; making the medium as transparent as glass or as dense and black as tar. Because of its ever-changing state, Patti Brady covers the most popular techniques for acrylic, making them accessible to the contemporary artist through a variety of mini-demonstrations followed by full demonstrations that show how to transform those techniques into finished paintings. The book will be available near the end of first quarter 2009.

GOLDEN Eliminates Fuel Surcharge
Golden Artist Colors announced recently that effective December 15, 2008, the energy surcharge which was instituted in July will be eliminated. Thank you for your continued support during these volatile economic times and if you have any questions about these changes, please feel free to contact Sales Director Bill Hartman at 1-800-959-6543, ext. 204.

Discontinuation of Garnet Gel

In the last couple of years, finding a consistent supply of the garnet raw materials used in Garnet Gel has been difficult, particularly with the coarse and extra coarse grits. With Garnet Gel (Coarse), our supplier is no longer able to provide the raw material in the grit size and color we’ve been using. After careful review of two potential replacements exhibiting a significant color shift, and with consideration for continued raw material supply and consistency problems, we have decided to discontinue production of all grits of Garnet Gel, effective the end of 2008.
