Sylvia

We are heartbroken to share the loss of one of our MacPherson’s family. Sylvia Odom, a member of our Suwanee night crew, was killed in her home on Monday evening. Her husband Samuel was also slain. The DeKalb county police have no description of the shooter or any witnesses. A roommate found the couple on Monday night. Our most heart felt sympathies go out to her family, friends and colleagues during this terrible time.

Fun Facts: Did you know that there is an Eberhard Faber building in Greenpoint Brooklyn, NY, a four-story building overlooking the East River near 42nd Street? In 1956, as many of Brooklyn’s manufacturing businesses fizzled out in the wake of World War II, the Eberhard Faber company sold its headquarters  to move operations to Pennsylvania. Derwent Consumer Brand Insights & Product Spotlight

Wednesday, October 26th, 2016

Consumer research proves how important product quality is in determining brand preference in art materials and Derwent has a strong story to tell in this regard. Many of Derwent’s products receive high consumer ratings and deliver on key product characteristics such as intensity of color, the laydown of the material used, lightfastness and depth of color range.

Derwent has the largest and most comprehensive range of fine art pencils available on the art materials market today following many years of intensive consumer research, with a focus on delivering market leading product innovation. In recent years, Derwent has launched new and innovative pencil ranges such as Inktense pencils and blocks and relaunched the Pastel pencil range to become the preferred choice of many professional pastel artists working in pencil media.

New categories and product adjacencies have been added to the Derwent range with the launch of Graphik Line Painters and Graphik Line Marker Pens.

Derwent Graphik Line Painters are an innovative range of highly pigmented, lightfast fine line painters which are water-soluble. With a fine Japanese nib and 20 vibrant colors to choose from, they are highly regarded by professional artists.

Carne Griffiths, a professional artist living in England, uses Graphik Line Painters extensively in his work. Carne is renowned for his beautiful portraits and distinctive drawings. His work is a combination of painterly expression overlaid with fine graphical detail.

Derwent Graphik Line Painters tick all the boxes for me as a painting and drawing tool, they can be used with wet media in a very expressive painterly way, whilst also being the finest paint pen I have used for more detailed illustrations. They provide great control and the ability to add fine detail over a variety of tricky surfaces, they’ve become a must have part of my art materials kit.” comments Carne.

Wednesday, October 26th, 2016

Strathmore Artist Papers™ would like to reward retailers, their customers, and store employees by offering unique Strathmore branded promotional items. umbrella

This program is open to all brand rewards customers, iAMart customers, and AGA customers. Point balances will be uploaded into retailer accounts in the Strathstore twice a year (February/August) based on retailer purchases through distribution. This added segment of the Brand Rewards program is an extra benefit for purchasing Strathmore products.

koozieart-shirt

There are a wide variety of products that will be offered in this new point program, all having varying point levels. Some of the promotional items have a direct contribution from artists, including a t-shirt with feature art created by Erik Davis. There is also a limited time offer on a mug featuring watercolor artist Eleanor Mill. Other items are useful everyday products such as tote bags, can koozies, umbrellas and pencil bags, which feature the Strathmore logo. The more retailers purchase of Strathmore products, the more points they can earn and exchange for promotional products!

art-mug

Products can be used in a variety of ways, depending on the amount of materials earned by retailers. If lots of points are collected and redeemed for items, stores can think about running an in-store promotion to give out those products to their customers. Retailers can even think about taking one item, and running a “giveaway” entry to boost their email/social media following. These items are also great to give to store employees.

tote-bag

Each retailer will need to complete a Strathstore registration form in order to access this special portion of the Strathmore Retailer Tools website. Each retailer will also be asked to designate only ONE authorized agent to redeem points in the Strathstore. This individual will be the only authorized agent to make Strathstore promotional material selections.

Just in time for Winter Back to School, Strathmore is offering a sign-up bonus for a limited time. Complete registration to participate in the Strathstore program before 1/1/2017, and receive 175 bonus points! All documentation and account information must be received by Strathmore prior to 12:00 am 1/1/2017. This extra sign-up bonus is for current Strathmore Brand Rewards customers, iAMart customers, and AGA customers. To start taking advantage of Strathstore benefits, please contact your Strathmore or MacPherson’s Account Manager for full program details!

If you aren’t currently taking full advantage of the Strathmore Brand Rewards program, ask your MacPherson’s or Strathmore Account Manager about the 2017 program details. Retailers can earn cash incentives, pick their own products for discounts, and now earn free promotional materials by simply purchasing Strathmore Artist Papers items.

Legion: A New Look For The Artist

Wednesday, October 26th, 2016

As true pioneers in the art of making paper, Legion not only innovates paper but its packaging as well. With this redesign Legion breaks from traditional cover styles as the new covers owe their elegance to simplicity. The covers literally tells creatives, both novices and professionals, what they need to know before choosing one of the papers. What does the paper feel like? What are its possibilities for all drawing techniques and watercolor? What will the results look like? With all essential qualities conveyed in words, graphic additions become superfluous. This enables Legion to choose a cover design that is simple, quiet and sleek. The array of subtle colors on all of the products serve as a common reference to the quality, refinement and exquisite know-how of Legion. Legion keeps on innovating. Their tag line? “We put vision into paper. We are paper.”

Adobe Photoshop PDF

While it may look like a big change from outside, their identity and products remain the same. Their pad and block covers are merely highlighted. The new design is complete, the printing is in motion and the complete pads are set for exposure at MacPherson’s in early December.
