P1000111The Herald News of Monterey Bay California reports that John Wiseman will be closing Art Max due to lawsuits and claims filed by his son and ex-daughter-in-law. It makes for quite a sad and sordid story and proves that Murphy’s law is alive and well in family businesses. Read the whole story here:  Art Max to close.
Congratulations to Art Outfitter’s owner Kerry Kemp and beau Tim Joiner who recently tied the knot in New Orleans!

There’s a amazing new smart phone app called Art Around Town: It tracks street art and fosters community. It’s a community-generated map, tagged with the locations of publically accessible art, including murals, sculptures and, yes, even graffiti. It already features hundreds of pieces of public art in Washington, San Francisco, New York and Oakland, Calif., and it’s growing – a street in Spokane, Wash., already features seven tags. Check out a PBS article with lots more details. Art Around Town on PBS

Mele Murals Project Kicks Off in Hawaii!
Mele Murals is a youth development, arts education, cultural preservation, and community-building project.  Over a five-year period, starting in late 2013, local artists, youth, and other members of communities spanning the eight major islands of Hawai`i will create a series of large-scale outdoor murals focusing on Hawaiian lyrics (mele) that explore mo`olelo `aina (stories of place) and cultural and historical heritage.  Montana Cans and Art Alternatives have partnered with the Estria Foundation to help sponsor the initial murals of the project.
The project has just kicked off with the first mural in the series and is already receiving great media attention!

New OPEN Acrylics Landscape Set from GOLDEN!

GOLDEN OPEN Acrylics continue to be adopted by more and more artists who are finding these innovative slow-drying acrylics to be the perfect acrylic for their painting style. OPEN Acrylics are ideal for:
• Representational art
• Subtractive techniques
• Printing techniques
• Mixing with standard acrylics
To engage even more artists with OPEN Acrylics, GOLDEN is introducing a new OPEN Acrylics Landscape Set. The OPEN Landscape Set is designed to catch the eye of the traditional painter looking for an alternative to oil paints, or simply to those painters who identify with a more representational approach to painting. Since OPEN Acrylics will remain wet far longer than other acrylics, color mixtures resist skinning on the palette during long painting sessions, both in the studio and outdoors. The remarkably relaxed working properties facilitate the blending, softening and shading required for traditional painting techniques.

Colors and mediums included in the OPEN Landscape Set: OPEN Cadmium Yellow Primrose 22 ml, OPEN Yellow Ochre 22 ml, OPEN Alizarin Crimson Hue 22 ml, OPEN Cadmium Red Light 22 ml, OPEN Ultramarine Blue 22 ml, OPEN Manganese Blue Hue 22 ml, OPEN Sap Green Hue 22 ml, OPEN Titanium White 2 oz., OPEN Thinner 1 oz.
