GOLDEN Introduces New Packaging Utilizing Post-Consumer Recycled Material

In alignment with Golden Artist Color’s aspirations for environmental sustainability,  the company will begin introducing 25% post-consumer resin on some of its cylinder and jar packages. By collaborating with Cortland Plastics and Empire Emco, two local New York companies, GOLDEN was able to secure new containers and will introduce the packaging change to customers within the first quarter of 2017.

With this packaging transition, there will be no change to the dimensions or shape of the containers. It is possible that customers will notice a very slight change in the container color, with minimal cloudiness, as compared to current packaging.

Containers affected by the change are as follows:

  • Cylinders
    • 1 oz., 4 oz., 8 oz., 16 oz.
  • Jars
    • 8 oz., 16 oz., 32 oz.

GOLDEN will continue to consider future opportunities where utilization of post-consumer resin aligns with corporate strategies and initiatives. If you have any questions about this change, please contact Regulatory Affairs Director, Ben Gavett at bgavett@goldenpaints.com.

Hints and Tips:

  • Sketching and drawing is one of the fastest growing categories at art & craft retail. Even with the adult coloring craze cooling down, sketching and drawing continues to trend.
  • Sets are the entry point for most sketching and drawing customers, so merchandising placement and design that helps consumers find their way to the right technique and quality can build strong loyalty to stores and brands.
  • Open stock pencils are essential to developing long term serious fans as customers though the slower inventory turn makes it less of a profit center and more of a courtesy.
  • The “golden zone” for merchandising on store shelves is eye-level down to the average person’s waist. On the shelves below is a great destination location for items such as open stock and above is great for way finding, branding and promotional signage.

Strathmore’s Online Workshop Series Drives Sales!

Monday, February 22nd, 2016

Workshop 2016 Art Combined

Strathmore is excited to once again offer their free Online Workshop Series, which starts March 7, 2016! Take advantage of this consumer workshop series and increase your store’s traffic and sales. Promote the start of the workshops in your store, on your website, on social media, and drive sales as students purchase from the class supply list (there are over 37,000 students registered already).

The Strathmore 2016 Online Workshop Series will again feature 3 different workshop series, with each series including 4 videos and downloadable instructions created by incredibly talented artists. Students follow along as instructors guide them through various topics and demonstrate useful tips, techniques, ideas and inspirations to get students creating and learning about art. Visit Strathmore Artist Papers at Artist Studio for more information about the 2016 Workshop Series.

This year participants are no longer required to create a student account to view the videos. Once the videos are released on the site, they are available for anyone to view at any time, for free, without creating an account. However, if students want to interact with the instructors in discussion forums, or upload images to the gallery, they still need to create an account to access those special features. Students can still create an account to interact with their friends on the site, and to create their own profile. No changes impact any existing student accounts. By removing the account set-up to view the video content, more artists will be encouraged to engage in the wonderful free content that is available in the workshop series.

Here are three ideas for retailers to take advantage of the program:

  1. Create Workshop Supply End Cap – Download this poster/handout pdf and create an end cap featuring the workshop supply list. Use the poster on the end cap to promote the workshops as well as in the window and at check out.
University Art created this end cap featuring supplies for a previous Strathmore Workshop.

University Art created this end cap featuring supplies for a previous Strathmore Workshop.

Workshop Facebook

  1. Follow Strathmore Artist Papers on Facebook – www.facebook.com/strathmoreartist – and share posts with your fans. This is a really easy thing to do! Strathmore shares on-going information and reminders about the Workshops on Facebook. Ask your fans to stock up on class supplies at your store! You can also check out #StrathmoreWorkshops on Instagram, Facebook & Twitter. Additionally, you can follow Strathmore on other social media sites including:

Pinterest, Twitter, YouTube, and Instagram

  1. Create your own workshop from content delivered in Strathmore’s Online Workshops! Each workshop provides you with a supply list, educational video and supporting information. Makes hosting your own event easier!

As a reminder, at the end of each year Strathmore will post that year’s Online Workshop Series videos to their YouTube channel. Look for the 2015 Online Workshop Series videos that are now available, which include workshops on drawing, visual journaling, and watercolor sketching and journaling ( https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL9AjCVLhzTrRZjqLMub2tD6nw_cL28ACO).

Also offered on Strathmore’s YouTube channel, you will find an expanding library of videos around product information, quick tips and tricks for using Strathmore products, and helpful information on frequently asked questions.

Golden’s Primary Marketing Priorities: Williamsburg Oil Mediums & Merchandising

Tuesday, October 11th, 2011

One primary strategy that Golden Artist Colors will be targeting for 2011 is:

Support of Williamsburg Handmade Oil Colors

1. Williamsburg Handmade Oil Colors Merchandising

As mentioned earlier this year, in order to further support the Williamsburg Handmade Oil Colors line, GOLDEN is introducing a number of new items and enhancements to the merchandising materials available, further warranting your interest in the brand.

2. Williamsburg Handmade Oil Mediums

One of the recent improvements was the change in packaging for the Williamsburg Mediums. In order to better align the packaging for the Oil Mediums with the professionalism and prestige of the Williamsburg brand, these products will now be available in new square, glass containers for the 2 oz., 4 oz., 8 oz., and 16 oz., sizes. These have begun shipping, so you should see them soon!

For more information, contact your MacPherson’s Sales Representative, GOLDEN Sales Representative, or Williamsburg Technical Support at Golden Artist Colors by calling 1-800-959-6543.

Chartpak’s Marketing Priorities: Introducing the new Grumbacher Academy Acrylics

Monday, August 22nd, 2011

Finally, an artist products manufacturer who understands both the artist and retailer!

Chartpak has developed a line of Grumbacher collegiate acrylics that maximizes the color gamut with the fewest number of SKUs -48 colors.  Retailers will have increased turns as the line has virtually all “A” and “B” selling items.  You will not find different values of the same or similar hue in our line.  What you will find are 48 highly pigmented colors.  Chartpak reformulated its existing 24 colors and added 24 new colors with a new single base, so that the flow and drying are more consistent.

Most importantly, all 48 colors have an ASTM lightfast rating of “1” or excellent.  Even professionals can use Academy Acrylics with confidence knowing of the high level of permanence built into our product.  We engineered the line to this lightfast level because you never know when an artist will paint their masterpiece.  How many artists do you know that wish they had used better materials when they were young?  Academy Acrylic users will not be one of them in the future.

Chartpak developed brilliant new process colors which make rich secondary and tertiary colors, and also added two metallic colors that really shimmer.

Grumbacher Academy Acrylics are available in 90ml traditional metal tubes and in exciting contemporary designed 75ml plastic tubes.  Fifteen colors are offered in 200ml plastic tubes.  Best of all are the prices.  75ml $4.75, 90ml $5.60 and 200ml $9.95. And finally,  Grumbacher paints are all proudly manufactured and tubed in the United States.

All Academy Acrylic assortments drop-shipped at 50/35%, with free freight and free rack through 9/24/11 for BTS.

Golden Primary Marketing Priorities: New Introductory Grounds Set

Monday, August 22nd, 2011

In Support of the New Introductory Grounds Set

Merchandising the New Introductory Grounds Set

Did you know that many GOLDEN Gels & Pastes make great grounds for drawing media as well as wet media? Colored pencil, pastel, charcoal, these are just some of the common drawing materials that work great on top of many GOLDEN textures. To help artists discover a broad range of options, GOLDEN has put together this Introductory Set of products that offer exciting surfaces when used as grounds for drawing or painting.

This set fits perfectly in both the GOLDEN Acrylic aisle and in the Drawing aisle. Cross-merchandising this set will grow not only day-to-day interest in the largest range of Gel & Pastes offered to artists, it should intrigue dry media artists as well, stimulating new customer trial.

Another option is to consider featuring the Introductory Grounds Set in an off-shelf display to generate customer excitement and increase trial. Suggested displays may include:

• A dozen or more GD00P946-0 Grounds Sets stacked invitingly on a table.

• A representative display of standard sized product, based on the products included in the set.

• Signage provided by GOLDEN that introduces the set (includes a place for you to write in your special introductory price).

• Surfaces prepared with the products sold in the set along with an assortment of drawing materials for artists to experiment with on the sample boards.

In addition, by giving customers the opportunity to access QR codes on point-of-purchase materials for each product in the set, they have more detailed information right at their fingertips. Finding the exact product that will best meet their needs will now be easier than ever!

Point-of-purchase merchandising pieces are available in support of this set at no cost. Be sure to add these items to your next order!

• GDMO15190 – Grounds Set BTS POP (2) – Acrylic & Drawing Aisle

• GDMO15170 –  Collection of 6 Ground Set POP Danglers

Customers visiting the GOLDEN Web site who are interested in learning more about the set can go to Golden’s Web Site and click on the Grounds Set rotating banner, which will take them to more detailed information and product videos on the Grounds Set landing page: Ground Set Page.

Please contact your MacPherson’s sales rep right away for this exciting order writing opportunity!
