Strathmore is excited to expand their initiative to offer consumers educational information as it relates to art. The video series called “Artist How-To” videos launched in May, 2015, and in these short video segments, Strathmore has paired with professional artists to offer artist tips and techniques as it relates to a specific type of art and mediums.

The newest additions to the collection of “Artist How-To” are three new videos created by artist Justin Maas. In these short 2-4 minute videos, Justin explains his tips and techniques for creating portrait artwork using toned papers. This content is great for artists just starting out with toned papers, or for those who have interest in creating portraits but need a bit of guidance on where to begin. In the first video, Justin provides an overview of why an artist may choose to use Toned paper, and how to use it. In video 2, he covers materials needed to create portraits on Toned paper and shows viewers how to set up their work space. In video 3, he demonstrates a finished piece from start to finish, while narrating his tips and techniques.

Strathmore Monthly Giveaway on Instagram!

Strathmore is encouraging artists to post a photo of their customized Vision cover art on Instagram, and they can win a monthly giveaway of $100 worth of Strathmore products! Retailers can share social media information on the giveaways, or mimic the idea on their own social media platforms.

HOW IT WORKS:

  1. Artists post a picture of their work made on the cover of their Strathmore Vision pad to Instagram.
  2. Artists tag Strathmore in their post (@strathmoreart) and use the hashtag #strathmorecovers
  3. During the first week of every month from July through December of 2017, Strathmore will randomly select a winner from the pool of participants to win a pre-selected assortment of Strathmore products valued at $100.

All artwork must be created on the blank steel blue cover of any Strathmore Vision pad to be a valid entry for the giveaway prize.

Strathmore Proudly Celebrates 125 year Anniversary in 2017

This year at the NAMTA show, Strathmore incorporated a birthday theme into the booth which included a birthday cake and balloons to celebrate their 125th anniversary. The celebration will continue throughout the year with special themed activities and events for consumers and retailers, so watch for special activities on social media platforms to share with your customers.

125 HoraceAs part of the anniversary celebration, Strathmore created a unique cover for the standard 400-8 400 Series Drawing pad. The composition and construction of the pad is identical to the standard product, with the exception that the pad artwork has been revised to include an image of founder Horace Moses, done in graphite by artist Heather Rooney. The cover also includes the Strathmore 125 year anniversary logo. The product with the commemorative cover will ship automatically on orders throughout 2017.

The history of the Strathmore Paper Company began on St. Patrick’s Day in 1892 when its founder, Horace Moses, opened the Mittineague paper mill in West Springfield, MA.

125 LogoSoon after opening the first mill, Horace visited the Valley of Strathmore in Scotland. The thistle was in full bloom and the beauty of the site impress him so much that he started using the name Strathmore and the thistle as a symbol of high quality art and printing papers. The Strathmore brand name began to appear on fine art papers in 1899 and quickly became known as one of the highest quality art papers used by many leading artists around the world.

Strathmore’s long history includes a commitment to innovation, listening to artists and continuing to introduce new products that enhance artistic ideas and aspirations, like producing the first recycled sketch papers in 1972 called Shelburne Phase II Sketch. Strathmore strives to manufacture their products in the USA, which allows them to control the quality and consistency artists have come to expect from the brand.

Beyond founding Strathmore, Horace Moses was known not only as an industrialist, but also as philanthropist who made many generous contributions of his time and finances towards the betterment of youth, the furthering of the arts, and the study of agricultural science. His gifts continue to enrich the lives of people all over the world to this day.

In 1919, Horace Moses founded Jr. Achievement, with the mission to provide boys with practical training in running small businesses of their own. The United States Postal Service honored Mr. Moses in 1984 with a commemorative 20¢ stamp.

In addition to Jr. Achievement, Horace Moses made many significant contributions financially and through the gift of land for other organizations including Boy Scouts of America, 4-H, Green Mountain Junior College, Eastern States Farmer’s Exchange, Valley View Cemetery Chapel, Moses-Ludington Hospital, Ticonderoga Community Building, Liberty Monument, Hancock House, and the New England’s state fair.

Based upon this, Strathmore’s product team developed a product that encourages art enthusiasts to try a new media and let their imagination come to life, while still offering a basic structure to work from. This new product, Designs for Watercoloring Pads, offer preprinted designs on a quality art surface meant to be used with watercolor paints.

Strathmore has partnered with artist Joanne Fink to feature Zenspirations® designs in these three new products. Strathmore Introduces “Strathstore” Rewards

Strathmore Artist Papers™ would like to reward retailers, their customers, and store employees by offering unique Strathmore branded promotional items. Retailers can earn points simply by purchasing Strathmore products, and then they can redeem those points for free promotional materials on the brand new “Strathstore” portion of the Strathmore Retailer and Distributor Tool site.

This program is open to all brand rewards customers, iAMart customers, and AGA customers. Point balances will be uploaded into retailer accounts in the Strathstore twice a year (February/August) based on retailer purchases through distribution. This added segment of the Brand Rewards program is an extra benefit for purchasing Strathmore products.

There are a wide variety of products that will be offered in this new point program, all having varying point levels. Some of the promotional items have a direct contribution from artists, including a t-shirt with feature art created by Erik Davis. The newest addition to the collection of “Artist How-To” series include 3 new videos created by artist Minnie Small. In these short 2-4 minute videos, Minnie explains her tips and techniques for creating artwork using gouache. This content is great for artists just starting out with gouache, or for those who have interest in the media but need a bit of guidance on where to begin. She also demonstrates a gouache painting while narrating with tips along the way.

Strathmore is calling all artists to submit their work, which will be featured on t-shirts worn at upcoming events and activities. Artists who submit their work will have a chance to win cash and Strathmore products!

Strathmore is asking artists to submit their design ideas which have been originally created on Strathmore branded products. A thistle – which is part of Strathmore’s corporate logo— must be incorporated into the art work. It can be a literal interpretation of the thistle plant, or it can be a thistle that resembles the current Strathmore logo. It can be an obvious part of the piece, or it can be hidden somewhere in the art.

Artwork will be featured on Strathmore Team shirts and other promotional materials, plus it may be featured on social media sites. Strathmore will be selecting one 1st place winner, and will also be selecting three runner-ups, who will also be receiving prizes. Artists selected will be credited by name wherever artwork is featured (social media sites or Strathmore promotional materials).

  • The artist whose artwork is chosen as the 2016 T-Shirt Design Contest winner will be awarded a $1,000 cash prize, plus the winner will receive 12 shirts featuring their design!
  • Three runner-ups will be awarded with $250 retail value of Strathmore® products, selected by Strathmore Artist Papers™.

Anyone is welcome and encouraged to submit their artwork. Style, subjects and mediums used are up to the artist, but it must be created on Strathmore product! There is no fee to participate. Strathmore’s Online Workshop Series Drives Sales!

Strathmore is excited to once again offer their free Online Workshop Series, which starts March 7, 2016! Take advantage of this consumer workshop series and increase your store’s traffic and sales. Promote the start of the workshops in your store, on your website, on social media, and drive sales as students purchase from the class supply list (there are over 37,000 students registered already).

The Strathmore 2016 Online Workshop Series will again feature 3 different workshop series, with each series including 4 videos and downloadable instructions created by incredibly talented artists. Students follow along as instructors guide them through various topics and demonstrate useful tips, techniques, ideas and inspirations to get students creating and learning about art. This year participants are no longer required to create a student account to view the videos. Once the videos are released on the site, they are available for anyone to view at any time, for free, without creating an account. Students can still create an account to interact with their friends on the site, and to create their own profile. No changes impact any existing student accounts. By removing the account set-up to view the video content, more artists will be encouraged to engage in the wonderful free content that is available in the workshop series.
